Cherry Popper

One in six billion.

Does One really matter? Can One make a difference? No doubt.

We all make a difference. Our life experience is largely determined by our decisions and actions. That leaves no doubt in my mind, that I make the largest difference in my life experience.

Does my life experience affect other people's life experience? Of course it does. Every interaction we have with other people has an effect on their outlook on me and to a lesser degree their outlook the human race.

Nothing earth shattering in these simple thoughts, but it would benefit all of us to remember these basic facts as we go about our lives.

What can you expect to find on this blog, you ask. The answer: Whatever is on my mind or maybe the goings on in my life.

A little about me:

I am married with three children (all boys). My youngest son just graduated from high school, my oldest and middle son have their own place and are attending the local community college. All three have had jobs since they were sixteen and they all bought their own first car.

I am an accountant in a local public accounting firm in Western Kentucky. I work almost exclusively with small business and their owners. I assist them with tax planning and tax return preparation. I prepare and review financial statements. My passion in accounting is designing systems to track various bits of information that help the business owners to gauge the profitability of their business and to gauge the success of changes they make to their operations. I enjoy building Excel spreadsheets and dabble in VBA programming to help automate many of the tasks required for the business owner to track his business operation.

My interests are many.

I listen to news and sport talk radio all day while I am at work. I browse various web sites daily to keep abreast of the rebuilding of Kentucky basketball. Hence I am well informed on politics and University of Kentucky basketball.

I am an avid and profitable poker player. I play texas hold'em and stud hi/lo and occaisionally HORSE (a mix of hold'em, omaha 8 or better, razz, seven card stud, and seven card stud hi/lo. I mainly play tournaments, but also play hold 'em cash games. My poker life highlight was playing in the World Series of Poker - The $10,000 Main Event in 2008. I have every intention of making a return trip to Las Vegas for the main event in the near future. My latest success was finishing 54th in the Sunday quarter-million (over 27,000 entrants).

I love crossword puzzles and solve a couple of online puzzles daily. My favorite puzzle editor is Timothy Parker and I usually solve his puzzles in about 10 minutes (sometimes 20 minutes later in the week when the puzzles get tougher.

I enjoy the occaisional bourbon and water. My favorite brands are Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve and Knob Creek. I am currently on a Knob Creek streak.

There are other interests and I will write about them when the urge arises.
